Bendle - compost - a slim book of lies (2023)

Friend of the show Bendle has a new book out:  compost - a slim book of lies
He describes it as "stories, poems, lies."

I am still very proud of the music we did together back in the day
You can check that out as well - this one is my favorite

Boom Dispenser - Boom Dispenser (2021)

.

11 years since the last Boom Dispenser release, a 2-song ep.

All proceeds from this e.p. will support RAICES:
(Refugee And Immigrant Center for Education and legal Services).
You can donate directly at www.raicestexas.org.

Picture a lost 1980s James Caan movie where he plays that lonely schmuck that can't get a break. This plays in the montage where his girlfriend is headed to the airport and he’s stuck in a warehouse by the docks getting his ass kicked  - and she never knows why he didn't show up.

Some help with guitars from a guy I know.
My son composed the sequencer loop back when he was in 3rd grade.

2020 suggestions from here at Pen & Mallet

Some folks are putting together their end of the year lists. Lots to talk about as usual. I am sure a ton of great records will come out before the end of the year, but I thought I would help out the compilers with some titles that may not have gotten noticed. Since the latest aboombong album, asynartetic was the only official release from me this year, I guess it gets the local call. Some others to pay attention to this year include a string of releases from Sister Black Lagoon who are selling their whole discography for a tune. Also worth your notice are the releases from Hive Mind Records this year - including Jaipongan Music of West Java and "Aicha" from Maalem Mahmoud Gania. Another one to check out is Rabbit Hole Variations from Greg Nieuwsma of SawakAnd I would be remiss not to mention the work from Pen & Mallet regulars Dynamo Stairs album Nickel Chrome, or Kanawha's best yet

aboombong - asynartetic

My latest release is out on time for the latest Bandcamp Friday (starting 12am PDT on 8/7/2020). For 24 hours Bandcamp waives their fees to help out artists. I will be using that as a way to raise money to help the victims of the recent blast in Beirut. All proceeds raised this month from any aboombong purchase will go to http://redcross.org.lb who provides frontline relief to victims.
Most (not all, but most) aboombong songs involve improvisation at some level. I frequently use improvisations as source material and then editing and post-production manipulations to combine them into something coherent. On this album the improvisations themselves, the performances, are the focus. Taking cues from jazz - where the interplay between musicians is the substance of the performance -these songs were constructed "live" - with each performance played in direct response to the tracks laid down previously. Treatments and manipulations were applied (essentially) live as well (play, treat, playback while improvising the next track) for the most part. Enjoy and spread the word so I can raise some money for those in need. Thanks.

Side Two

After nearly a decade of going it alone, this is the second release completed in collaboration with musical friends in so many years. Lana came to me with the desire to do some singing outside of her usual frame, and things snowballed from there - with contributions from David and Brian bringing it all together. As always, available via bandcamp pay what you like.

After a 30 year break, some of the members of AOS collaborate on three noisome garage tracks from their basements spread out across the western US of A. This one was intended to satisfied an itch I had for some stupid punk songs. Getting Raul involved, of course, ruined any chance of things staying stupid, and Matt saved Stoner Girl from being stuck in inept guitar purgatory. Raul and I have another batch of decidedly non-punk songs in the works, out sometime this year. Stay tuned.
